1973- Born Midland, Michigan to “civically-active” parents. 1991- Attends Midland High School. Goes on to Michigan State University majoring in Econ/Poly Sci. 1997- Starts corporate career in Detroit, MI as an outside salesperson/executive assistant, eventually leaves over direction of expansion he helped orchestrate. 2000- Interns at Dow Chemical in Midland, MI 2001- Peace Corps, Kazakhstan. Gets reassigned from Kyzylorda State University for “Criticizing the Policies of the President of Kazakhstan.” 2011- At Hanoi International School worked with parents/teachers/students to document IT shortcomings of the school. Docked a weeks pay for writing the report in a style “Critical of the Board of Management.” 2013- Research and inquiry into the plans and actions of International School Director to place incoming teachers into “condemned” housing area. Suspended with pay for final week of the school year for making “Unprofessional statements toward the Director.” |
Personal Statement
I know firsthand the kind of failure that can follow from asking tough questions, digging, double checking and holding the powerful to account for their actions. I am not trained in the art of “access journalism” but I am experienced in the research/writing to inform, involve and entertain. |
